I hope you are in good health. Please allow me a few minutes of your time to share some
real progress in our community. Each improvement has you, your family and neighbors as
the number one priority!
1. New middle school currently under construction, 36th Street-38th Street between Bergenline Avenue and Kennedy Boulevard: this school will consist of grades 7th thru 9th. The expected date of opening is September 2025.
2. New affordable housing building with 24 units in the historic Teamster building located at 707 Summit Avenue: A big thanks to Governor Murphy who provided $3 million for Union City to purchase this great solid building. This project will take at least 2 to 3 years for completion.
3. Resurfacing of small soccer fields located on 2nd Street and New York Avenue: This facility is used daily by our residents and will be receiving a much-needed facelift. This will be completed by the end of this year.
4. Repaving of 4th Street thru 18th Street on Central Avenue: The Commissioners and myself were able to secure 1.2 million in funds to repave this beautiful neighborhood. This project will be done in early summer 2024.
5. Jefferson School school-yard: This project is in conjunction with the Union City Board of Education. The updated schoolyard will also serve as a nice playground for the children during the school day and the children in the neighborhood after school. Keeping our children safe in a great setting.
6. Complete facelift of 30th Street thru 49th Street Bergenline Avenue: This area will receive new sidewalks, street paving, signage, and LED bright anticrime lights. So far sidewalks have been completed from 37th Street thru 49th Street. I urge you to please visit Bergenline Avenue at night to see the new lighting with cameras. The entire project from 33rd Street to 49th Street should be completed in its entirety, including the lighting and street paving by the fall of next year 2024.
As you will notice a lot of improvements are taking place in our great city. This is only some of what we have been working on but we have a lot more to come.
